Gogagah | Motions-in-Motions 2024: The Finals Showdown | In the riveting finals showdown, DLSU’s Econ-Know-Mists faced off against USC’s Trapa’s Angelz, their clash pivoting on the virtual toss of a coin. Opting for tails, Econ-Know-Mists held their breath as the coin landed on heads, granting Trapa’s Angelz the pivotal choice of stance. Thus, Econ-Know-Mists found themselves championing the government side of the motion: “the house supports DepEd’s initiative to decongest the present K-to-12 program into K-to-10through the Matatag Curriculum.”
With fervor and conviction, the government bench argued that the current educational landscape faces a crisis, burdened by overloaded work and congested learning competencies. Advocating for a phased transition to the Matatag curriculum, they countered oppositional claims of curriculum instability and cost inefficiencies by emphasizing the imperative for a more balanced distribution of learning outcomes across foundational subjects.
Furthermore, the government bench, through their Prime Minister, argued that the implementation of the Matatag curriculum presents itself as more efficient given its consideration and adaptability to different learning styles. This promotes a smoother transition from elementary to junior high school, wherein students are not directly subjected to higher-level academic requirements should they not meet the standards for basic level academic requisites. They also highlighted that the implementation of the Matatag curriculum did not entail the complete removal of senior high school.
In response, the opposition bench discredited the merit of the government bench’s call for prioritizing foundational subjects, arguing that it would diminish the importance of other subjects. Emphasizing that they failed to acknowledge that the significance of subjects varies across different academic settings.
Amidst the clash of intellects and the fervent exchange of arguments, Econ-Know-Mists emerged triumphant, securing their place in history as the Motions in Motion 2024 champions. Their victory stands as a testament to their strategic prowess and persuasive advocacy.
